Active witnesses? Please help?

hi,i'm lost and a little sad.

i actually like the jw faith.

some might call this faith cold, strict, dogmatic but they're just trying to follow rules and give back to god.

From what you've written it seems you like structure and are not so worried about facts. Do not limit yourself to information provided by the object of your research, ie: "The GB are Jehovah's spokesman because they said so". This will explode in your face if you get baptized and then you find the facts they presented you were false. You will be reviled, ignored and become an object of derision. Give it time. If you are studying with them take an extra long time studying before baptism and see how their interest in you will wane as you ask pertinent questions. I would ask, "will JW's still believe in doctrines 10 years from now that they believe is truth now? What if they change their belief in a life or death matter and were wrong all along?

Unless you are easily used for their gain via money or prestige you will be dropped.

What really happened around 1918 when WT leaders were imprisoned?

i had never thought about this until just now when i saw that nathan natas posted some early tract from rutherford, and it made me think back to what little i could remember of the history i was taught.

i now know that in most cases the dubs will spin stories in their favor.

so i'm now assuming i was told some fictitious story about what happened when the leaders were thrown in prison and things looked bleak for the cult way back when.

New brochure about donations.

in this midweek meeting the local needs was a booooring speech about the new brochure on donations.

the wt must think the jws are dying to know how to give their money.. well, it's not new this is disgusting but this time, after i ve been slightly hinting people here and there for a year about the 'abnormal request of money' and remind them that 'the faithful slave wasn't like that until some time ago', this time i saw their faces.

they did get bothered with that talk.

How do you feel about the elders?

oh dear, i recently made a comment about an elder being dogmatic.

and one of his best buddies sent me a wt article to help me realign my mind or something.

this is where reality separates from fantasy and fiction.

How realistic is it to say that 100% of elders were "douchebags"? I just don't agree. I know I wasn't. The torture of being a non-douchbag is what made escape possible. I met a few honorable men during my time in captivity. Sorry for your typical experience within the monkey house. Mine was atypical I guess. Don't get me wrong, I met some of the worst as well. Ugh.

Motherly Love, that "Unbreakable Bond"

my father died a couple of months ago.

he'd been ill for some time and had many health scares and heart troubles over the years but always managed to keep on going.

then one time he didn't.. i'm glad i got to know him again and spend some more time with him after so many years missed because of the wts but those years will always be lost forever.

and right now i'm reading a lot on atheism in general (books written to answer creationists).. i'd be interested in knowing how you became an atheist after leaving the jws and how long did it take?

was it instant or did your belief in a deity gradually decline?.

Today’s meeting and CO visit

the meeting today was quite disturbing as usual and had to endure 2 talks by yet another egotistical, pompous co who gives talks like a hardcore southern baptist, but people adore no matter what crazy shit spews from their mouth.

today, he talked about jesus illustration about how if your eye or hand stumbles you, remove it.

he went into gory detail about how somebodies eye ball is pulled out from their head, and what it takes to cut someone’s hand off...perhaps even with a pocketknife...in front of many small children in the audience.

It's so funny. There was a fuss in the 9o's about calling non baptized ones "Brother" or "Sister". Anyone remember that? They said to go ahead and call them that because we don't want to alienate interested ones. But as we see now they are all bird food no matter what we called them. Too warped!

Perhaps some have not discerned the significance of "I like turtles". Essentially it is a kind way of saying I do not find the subject matter to be of any interest and I think its kind of stooopid. There, I said it. Sometimes though its a respectful way of saying its tooooo damn long. (More often than not this is the case.) This particular post seemed to glorify drugs and provide a great excuse to take them. It struck me as another cult but clearly a more fun version since you leave your head and call it a revelatory experience.

according to jw’s what qualifies you to become an elder and who does the appointing?

Ok, so we've read the smart ass version of qualifications, now, what are the real qualifications.

A willingness to serve others. (Amway or any other pyramid scheme will do.)

Taking the lead in the ministry. (Meeting for service, making groups and then excusing yourself because you have a "pressing matter".)

Cooperates well with others. (Schmoozes well)

Has a boat, optional. (Has a boat.)

Has a four door car.

This cause is worthy of course, but there is one thing you can count on and that's politicians grabbing hold of it with rabid enthusiasm rather than measured responses. Mandatory bracelets are worthless in prevention and in apprehending offenders. Required living restrictions result in undue stress in offenders often leading to recidivism when their support base is torn apart by making them move into isolated areas. These same groupings of offenders become a danger to the area they are forced to live in due to the sheer numbers. Registration causes a burden on police departments because they cannot afford the thousands of officers to confirm the locations. California is moving towards reassessing who should be on the list because it is cumbersome and useless. I haven't read the law mentioned here but I hope it holds LONG LONG sentences and a fund for counseling of victims. These are the measures that will do some good.
